Missionary Mom Countdowns

I am a calendar person. I have them all over in my house. It's like when I travel I want a map to look at, even if I know the trip by heart...I like to see where I am at.
That is how I am with my missionary countdowns I have on my fridge. Yes, My fridge looks like OLD lady fridge...pictures drawings you name it and TONS of magnets. I like to see just how much time until my kids get home.
Kira's will be filled up BEFORE she gets home because she extended her mission by a month (No, she did not ask if it was ok). I am a little freaked out as to how I am going to keep count for that added time.Derek's was on the fridge before he left...I bet he would be surprised to see how full it is already getting!
I also got a bit smarter, I use the same color of hearts and then on transfers or months out, I use a different color.

I love it...I feel so in control of something I have absolutely no control of.

Happy Bithday Uncle John

I believe we all have that one "Special" Uncle in our lives. Mine happens to be turning 80 years young today.
He is my dad's older brother, and has always been an example of hard work, dedication and sound love to me.
When I go to Arizona other than seeing my siblings, I have only two other places that I go no matter what...to see MY Uncle John and the cemetery to put flowers on my mom and brother's graves. I am pretty sure that Uncle John doesn't follow blogs, but I could not let today pass without just saying, Happy Birthday...and I love you.Got to go, I have a phone call to make.

SPT ~ Self Portrait Tuesday

Lelly's SPT... tuesday, january 20 i resolve to take more self-portraits while trying new things.
I think this is a pretty NEW thing for the day!

January 20, 2009

Today will go down in the history books, not just because the United States of America is getting its 44th President, but because of the man that was elected.I would have hated to have been Pres. Bush who has had so much fall on his shoulders.
From the 9/11 attacks, gas prices and dishonest business men.Today, we will watch as another person takes the helm of this great country.
Though the differences in these two men are great beyond compare.
We the People of the United States should be proud of our country and what we have been blessed with compared to so many other places in the world.
Today, Barack Obama will raise his hand to the square and take the
"OATH OF THE PRESIDENT"

Each president recites the following oath, in accordance with Article II, Section I of the U.S. Constitution:
"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

Most of us know the Preamble. You know, the one we learned to sing from "

School House Rock"

Hey, do you know about the U.S.A.?Do you know about the government? Can you tell me about the Constitution?Hey, learn about the U.S.A.
In 1787 I'm told Our founding fathers did agree To write a list of principles For keepin' people free.
The U.S.A. was just startin' out.A whole brand-new country. And so our people spelled it out The things that we should be.
And they put those principles down on paper and called it the Constitution, and it's been helping us run our country ever since then. The first part of the Constitution is called the preamble and tells what those founding fathers set out to do.
We the people,In order to form a more perfect union,Establish justice, insure domestic tranquility,Provide for the common defense,Promote the general welfare and Secure the blessings of liberty To ourselves and our posterity To ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
In 1787 I'm told our founding fathers all sat down and wrote a list of principles That's known the world around.
The U.S.A. was just starting out A whole brand-new country. And so our people spelled it out They wanted a land of liberty.
And the Preamble goes like this:
We the people,In order to form a more perfect union,Establish justice, insure domestic tranquility,Provide for the common defense,Promote the general welfare and Secure the blessings of liberty To ourselves and our posterity Do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
For the United States of America...

Note:The lyrics here have a slightly abridged wording of the Preamble to the United States Constitution. The actual document starts, "We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union..."

Today after watching the inauguration of President Obama, I hope you will find a copy of the constitution and read it. Then say a prayer for our new President. That he will be guided by the same God that guided the writers of the Constitution, that he will be protected and that we as a country can be strong in our beliefs and as our heritage.

A Royal Weekend

+=
a weekend of hanging out at the porcelain throne.
Maybe I wouldn't have been so upset if I was "worshipping" at one that looked more like this.
I am just glad that it is over.

Going Private

I like to "visit" several different blogs. Some make me laugh, some share great recipes and others make me want to be a better person.
I am a "follower" of a few too.
I am trying to decide what I want to do when I see they are "going private".
Do I "quit following" or take them off my favorites?
Like I said at the start I just "visit" many blogs, I do not KNOW the person sometimes I will leave a short note.
What do you do?

What Way Do You Think The Wind Blew Last Night?

We had "dense fog" last night
I took this photo at 4:00 pm.
Not a real warm day.

Mr. Richard Call

This is Mr. Call, Papa Bear to his drama students.
Last week he was diagnosed with cancer.
This is the message his wife, Sayda left on her blog,
"We got the call this morning. It is cancer. The tumor is
12 inches long, 6 inches wide, and 6 inches thick. Remember the ER doc said it
was a pulled muscle? Well... it wasn't! There really is something growing, very
rapidly, in his thigh. We will go to SLC tomorrow to see the radiology
oncologist.
I can not tell you how much I love and appreciate him. Kira and Derek would have never survived high school with out his constant encouragement.
His family started a new blog just for Mr. Call.
If you would like stop by and say hi.
Please, keep him and his amazing family in your prayers.
Mr. Call, Sayda and family, we love you!
We are praying for you! We have faith that miracles can happen.

Have You Heard This?

For everyone...take a few minutes and listen to this widget I just added to my blog.
It is empowering not just for youth but for us as adults, mothers of this great generation!

“Be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity” (1 Timothy 4:12).
Read this wonderful article about "being an example of the believers".
(I am leaving this widget at the top of my blog page for now)

SPT

Lelly's SPT for today, tuesday, january 13
"i resolve to take more self-portraits with people i love"
As you can see, this picture is missing me...mostly because it is on top of a cold ski mountain, two things I do not do...skiing or cold! But, I loved that two of the people I love so much took it of themselves!

Tough Day

This past week has been a real eye opener.

It has given me the opportunity to wonder what constitutes a tough day?

Sickness, Depression, Unknown Illnesses, Flooded Home, Loss of an Important Item...

I have had family or friends have one of these things effect them just this week.

But, I have learned something from each of them...

How DO you handle the challenge?

Do you look it straight in the eye?

Hide in your bed?

Hope someone else will take care of it?
Grab a mop?

Find an importaint lesson?

Realize your family and friends care?

no these are not coolers...look a little closer

I am glad that this week...I was able to really learn and apply a good lesson.................. somewhere, someone has it a lot worse than I do.

My 2009 Word of the Year

I have been visiting different blogs and see that many of you are picking your "word of the year". Being the follower that I am, I have chosen my word.
Now this does come after much, much deliberation.
At first I thought my word would be MIRACLE because I want to look and find a miracle in everyday. Or it could be ANGEL, who has been an angel in my day...
yes, those are both very good and deserving words for the 2009 year.
But, I am afraid that they come tied for runner-up to
are you ready
DRUM ROLL......

My word of the year is....
"WHATHE"
I can say it like:
whathe????
or
WHATHE!!!!!!
or even
WHATHE!!!
but no matter how I say
"whathe"...
it will make me smile!

HAPPY BLOGOVERSARY TO LENE!

Just in case you didn't know 'lene is my little sister! She will hit a major mile mark this next week
She will be celebrating one year of blogging! So, wouldn't it be great if all of my blogging friends stopped by her blog and said HI and Happy BLOGOVERY!
She would just think we were all the coolest bloggers in the world.
She has 5 adorable children along with her husband and Harley (her dog) that she blogs about...plus anything else that comes to her mind.
She shares GREAT recipes and craft ideas.
Oh yea...and she is having a give-a-way to celebrate. I guess it is her party, odd that she is sending out the gifts!
But, then she has never been the normal of the two sisters, just the most BEAUTIFUL!
