SPT

from Lelly , Today is the final SPT installment of because of a blogger....
I am sure this is a hard one for all of us...I wonder if I will forget someone or something and then I realize that BLOGGER is YOU!! You who read my silly posts, You who makes me feel special, You who comment, and You who accept me as a fellow blogger. You who keeps me wanting to set down and "visit", You who show and share your talents, You who make the Sabbath just a little more special, You who go out of your way to do sweet and kind things. Because of YOU I love to blog.
Thank you !!

Sorry...but I had to post this...

Pee before you read!!
All hair removal methods have tricked women with their promises of easy, painless removal - The Epilady, scissors, razors, Nair and now...the wax.
The night began as any other normal weeknight. Come home, fix dinner, watch tv, visit with the husband.
I then had the thought...that would ring painfully in my mind for the next few hours: 'Maybe I should pull the waxing kit out of the medicine cabinet.'
So I headed to the site of my demise: the bathroom. It was one of those 'cold wax' kits. No melting a clump of hot wax, you just rub the strips together in your hand, they get warm and you peel them apart and press them to your leg (or wherever else) and you pull the hair right off. No muss, no fuss. How hard can it be? I mean, I'm not a genius, but I am mechanically inclined enough to figure this out.
(YA THINK!?!)
So I pull one of the thin strips out. Its two strips facing each other stuck together. Instead of rubbing them together, my genius kicks in so I get out the hair dryer and heat it to 1000 degrees. ('Cold wax, yeah...right!')
I lay the strip across my thigh. Hold the skin around it tight and pull. It works!
OK, so it wasn't the best feeling, but it wasn't too bad. I can do this!
Hair removal no longer eludes me! I am She-rah, fighter of all wayward body hair and maker of smooth skin extraordinaire.
So, with my next wax strip I move north. After checking on the kids, I sneak back into the bathroom, for the ultimate hair fighting championship. I drop my panties and place one foot on the toilet. Using the same procedure,
I apply the wax strip across the right side of my bikini line, covering the right half of my hoo-ha and stretching down to the inside of my butt cheek (it was a long strip) I inhale deeply and brace myself....
RRRRIIIPPP!!!! I'm blind!!! Blinded from pain!!!!.....OH MY GOSH!!!!!!!!!
Vision returning, I notice that I've only managed to pull off half the strip CRAP! Another deep breath and RIPP! Everything is spinning and spotted. I think I may pass out...must stay conscious...must stay conscious. Breathe, breathe...OK, back to normal.
I want to see my trophy - a wax covered strip, the one that has caused me so much pain, with my hairy pelt sticking to it. I want to revel in the glory that is my triumph over body hair. I hold up the strip!
There's no hair on it. Where is the hair???
Better yet, WHERE IS THE WAX??? Slowly I ease my head down, foot still perched on the toilet. I see the hair, the hair that should be on the strip...it's not!
I touch. I am touching wax. I run my fingers over the most sensitive part of my body, which is now covered in cold wax and matted hair.
Then I make the next BIG mistake.. remember my foot is still propped up on the toilet? I know I need to do something. So I put my foot down.
SEALED SHUT!!!! MY BUTT IS SEALED SHUT! SEALED SHUT!!!!
I penguin walk around the bathroom trying to figure out what to do
and think to myself 'Please don't let me get the urge to poop.
My head may pop off!'
What can I do to melt the wax? Hot water!! Hot water melts wax!! I'll run the hottest water I can stand into the bathtub, get in, immerse the wax-covered bits and the wax shouldmelt and I can gently wipe it off, right???
***** WRONG!!!!!!!******
I get in the tub - the water is slightly hotter than that used to torture prisoners of war or sterilize surgical equipment - I sit. Now, the only thing worse than having your nether regions glued together, is having them glued together and then glued to the bottom of the tub...in scalding hot water.
Which, by the way, doesn't melt cold wax. So, now I'm stuck to the bottom of the tub as though I had cemented myself to the porcelain!! Bless the man who had convinced me a few months ago to have a phone put in the bathroom!!!!!I call my friend, thinking surely she has waxed before and has some secret of how to get me undone. It's a very good conversation starter......
'So, my butt and hoo-ha are glued together to the bottom of the tub!' There is a slight pause. She doesn't know any secret tricks for removal but she does try to hide her laughter from me.
She wants to know exactly where the wax is located, 'Are we talking cheeks or hole or hoo-ha?' She's laughing out loud by now...I can hear her.
I give her the rundown and she suggests I call the number on the side of the box.
YEAH!!!!! Right!! I should be the joke of someone else's night.
While we go through various solutions. I resort to trying to scrape the wax off with a razor Nothing feels better than to have your girlie goodies covered in hot wax, glued shut, stuck to the tub in super hot water and then dry-shaving the sticky wax off!!
By now the brain is not working, dignity has taken a major hike and I'm pretty sure I'm going to need Post-Traumatic Stress counseling for this event.
My friend is still talking with me when I finally see my saving grace....the lotion they give you to remove the excess wax. What do I really have to lose at this point? I rub some on and.
OH MY...HOLT CRAP !!!!!!! The scream probably woke the neighbors and scared the dickens out of my friend on the phone. It's sooo painful, but I really don't care.
'IT WORKS!! It works!!'
I get a hearty congratulation from my friend and she hangs up. I successfully remove the remainder of the wax and then notice to my grief and despair.... THE HAIR IS STILL THERE.......ALL OF IT! So I recklessly shave it off. Heck, I'm numb by now. Nothing hurts. I could have amputated my own leg at this point. Next week I'm just going to try to color my hair.
My Sister in law sent me this email and I laughted so hard...yea I should have read the first line of the email a little better... Hope this gives all of you a chuckle for the morning and the thought...it could be worse!

Friday Night Lights!

I love High School Football ...even when we haven't won a game in a couple of years, it is o.k. because I see progression in our team. And in a couple of years this team will be unstoppable! Last night was HOMECOMING! My husband and all three of our children graduated from this High School.
Last year the Skaggs family donated the money to build a new football/track stadium. It is now located right behind the "new" high school. It is pretty darn fancy...maybe a little to fancy for high school but it is all good right...well right until you come to LIGHTS...Yep, as the planning team put in astro-turf and high end track turf, sound system and more bleachers. Someone forgot to budget in the lights! So, some great people in the Burley area donated A LOT OF MONEY and last night we had FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS! Our first 2 home games had to be played at 4:00 pm...so, this was very exciting. The lights are amazing! At the old field there were dark spots everywhere...and I think they were using 50 Watt bulbs from 1960, so this was like going from candles to electricity! Yea, that big of a deal.

With Homecoming comes the Royalty.
wish you could see how tight these girls hands were clinched as they named the 2008-2009 BHS Home Coming Queen...It was so darn cute

And the winner is MISS BECK!!! She is such a sweetheart! I was so excited for her. Hey, and while you are looking at the pretty smiles. Notice the modesty of their dresses. Total CLASS if you ask me.

Oh...the winner of the HOME COMING GAME.....the other team, but it was still fun to watch!

SPT

From Lelly, "your challenge is to highlight one thing per week that you have been inspired to do "because of a blogger." maybe it is a blogger you know (an old friend, a neighbor). maybe it is a blogger who is on your RSS feed. or maybe your creativity was sparked by a "drive-by" - a link to a link to a link. (wherever you found your inspiration, please try to give a nod to the appropriate blogger.)"
September 2 - home decor/tabletop
September 9 - entertaining/parties
September - 16 arts and crafts
September 23 - in the kitchen
September 30 - personal growth

I find so many different ideas for cooking from the "net" and my blogging friends, but I have to admit I am INSPIRED by my little sister lene.

For the longest time I didn't think she knew how to use a stove, let alone come up with a weekly menu, but she has turned out to be an AMAZING cook. I love it when she posts a recipe, because I jump on it. Her "corncobbler" is a favorite of mine.

I am inspired by her ability to be an amazing mom. She sets the table and her family eats together. I can't remember the last time my family did that...maybe Thanksgiving... I'm not sure.

She is also the person who introduced me to "blogging" and WOW I love it. I love meeting so many people and feeling like I have some great friends out there in the "blogging world".

Thanks 'Lene, I love you more than words, and am grateful for the inspiration you are to me.

It is Really Fall in Idaho

Happy first day of fall and if you are into BIG words...autumnal equinox!
I have always loved the Fall and Spring Equinox because my kids and I would take a raw egg and stand it on its end...Pretty darn cool!
Today my counters are covered with canning "stuff" and the kids are gone, but I still enjoy thinking about it.
Today I was driving to Oakley to listen to Mike Ramsdell, the author of "A Train To Potevka" speak to the high school students. I was looking at all the fields that are done being harvested and the ground is tiled for winter, and lo and behold on Mt. Harrison is SNOW!!!!! Yes, I said the "S" word...SNOW!!! Yep, it really is Fall in Idaho!

REMEMBER...

I have struggled with the words I wanted to use for this blog, because to be honest I don't have the to words to express the emotion I felt as I listen to POW's and heard memorials given for those MIA's from the Mini-Cassia Area of Idaho. Thank you to these men and women who traveled to Rupert to show respect to OUR POW/MIA's

Former POW Larry Chesley was the Keynote Speaker. He is such an amazing man. He wrote the book "Seven Years in Hanoi" . He speaks with such a great love for his country and his testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I linked his name to a web site that has some of his "experiences" while at the "Hanoi Hilton".

As I listened to the different speakers, I could remember students in school wearing bracelets of family members during the Vietnam war. I remember my Mom going to the bus station to pick up my Uncle after the war and seeing him in his uniform.

After this ceremony was over and I saw so many old and young alike my heart ached that more attention was given to this National Day of Honor. (There were more people out to the football game the night before.) Some of these men are quite old and there is a good possibility that they will not be around next year.
Mr. Chesley made several comments in his speech that I have not been able to get out of my mind, the first was that war is always "good-vs-evil". No matter what your political ties may be. This my favorite and a good one for all of us~

"There is no such thing as a bad day when you have a door handle on the inside of your door" ~ The Honorable Senator Larry Chesley ~former POW

So here is some information that you might like to know:

The design for the MIA/POW flag was never copyrighted. It became a flag that belongs to everyone, a design that hauntingly reminds us of those we dare not ever forget. Behind the black and white silhouette is a face we can't see...the face of a husband, a father, or a son who has paid with their freedom, for our freedom. Beneath the image are the words....
You Are Not Forgotten

I had never seen or heard of this ceremony. I cried like a baby through it. It touched my heart so deeply
POW/MIA Ceremony
LET US REMEMBER THE MEN AND WOMEN PRISONERS OF WAR FROM ALL BRANCHES OF SERVICE THAT ARE TOO OFTEN FORGOTTEN. LET US REMEMBER THEM.
THE TABLE CLOTH IS WHITE, SYMBOLIZING THE PURITY OF THEIR INTENTIONS TO RESPOND TO THEIR COUNTRY'S CALL TO ARMS -- SO THAT THEIR CHILDREN COULD REMAIN FREE. REMEMBER.
THE LONE CANDLE SYMBOLIZES THE FRAILTY OF A PRISONER ALONE, TRYING TO STAND UP AGAINST HIS OPPRESSORS. REMEMBER.
(A cadet lights the candle)
THE BLACK RIBBON ON THE CANDLE REMINDS US OF THOSE WHO WILL NOT BE COMING HOME. REMEMBER
THE SINGLE ROSE REMINDS US OF THE LOVED ONES AND FAMILIES OF OUR COMRADES IN ARMS WHO KEEP THE FAITH AND AWAIT THEIR RETURN. REMEMBER
A SLICE OF LEMON IS ON THE BREAD PLATE TO REMIND US OF THEIR BITTER FATE -- IF WE DO NOT BRING THEM HOME. REMEMBER
(A cadet slices a lemon and places a slice on each bread plate)
THERE IS SALT ON THE PLATE, SYMBOLIC OF THE FAMILY'S TEARS AS THEY WAIT AND REMEMBER.
(A cadet shakes salt onto each bread plate)
THE GLASSES ARE INVERTED. THEY CANNOT TOAST WITH US TONIGHT -- MAYBE TOMORROW, IF WE REMEMBER.
(The cadets execute a slow bend at the waist and pick up the wineglasses to eye level. At the word, “INVERTED”, the Honor Guard members quickly flip the wineglasses upside down with a twist of the wrist. Then slowly bring down the wineglasses to the table inverted.)
THE RED, WHITE AND BLUE RIBBON IS TIED TO THE FLOWER VASE BY A YELLOW RIBBON THAT WAS WORN BY THOUSANDS WHO AWAITED THEIR RETURN. REMEMBER
THE FADED PICTURE ON THE TABLE IS A REMINDER THAT THEY ARE MISSED VERY MUCH AND ARE REMEMBERED BY THEIR FAMILIES. REMEMBER.
AS WE LOOK UPON THIS EMPTY TABLE, DO NOT REMEMBER GHOSTS FROM THE PAST, REMEMBER OUR COMRADES.
REMEMBER THOSE WHOM WE DEPENDED ON IN BATTLE. THEY DEPEND ON US TO BRING THEM HOME.
REMEMBER OUR FRIENDS. THEY ARE THE ONES WE LOVE -- WHO LOVE LIFE AND FREEDOM AS WE DO.
THEY WILL REMEMBER WHAT WE DO. PLEASE HONOR AND REMEMBER THEM.
(The Honor Guard executes a slow salute together. They hold it approximately 10 seconds after the music has ended. Afterwards, the members slowly order arms and the Honor Guard commander will call “POST” and the members will execute a Left or Right Face. (Whichever is more convenient). “Forward March” will then move the members out of the room in a slow fashion.)
SUGGESTED SCRIPT FOR RETIRING THE TABLE
(One cadet approaches the table ready to extinguish the candle. If the hats are to be retired as well, the entire Honor Guard should enter with one identified to extinguish the candle.)
AS CADET _______________ EXTINGUISHES THIS CANDLE, LET US TRANSFER IT'S FLAME TO OUR HEARTS -- AND REMEMBER.
(Cadet extinguishes the candle and retreats.)
Yes...the flame was transfered and I will REMEMBER.

Tag and Questions

Michelle at Country Vintage tagged me ...as if the last post doesn't tell you alot about me!!! Here goes....BUT first the Rules:
If you have been tagged, here is what is requested:
1. Link your tagger and list these rules on your blog.
2. Share 7 facts about yourself on your blog, some random, some weird.
3. Tag 7 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well as well as links to their blogs.
4. Let them know they are tagged by leaving a post on their blog.
OK...here goes!
1. I am the oldest of 5 siblings
2. My baby sister is Lene
3. I can not spell and I don't enjoy reading
4. I once was really out going and loved to be around a lot of people. Now, I hardly ever go out and when I do, it is usually only with family.
5. I love to do for others with out them even knowing it was me. Cookies on doorsteps things like that.
6. I love living on the Snake River, though I do not "play" on it...I just watch it with wonder and respect for it is the Living Water of the area I live in. I draw strength and am humbed by the power it has and I am calmed by its constant flow. I look for my reflection in it when it is calm, and fear it when it has white caps on it. I see its strength when it is frozen on the top, but still strong enough under the ice to move a boat dock. I liken it to the "living water" spoken of in John 4:10, 14
7. I love to blog and am sadden as I see more and more "bloggers" stop. I hope it is not just a passing fad, because I enjoy the sisterhood found in the blogging world.
OK Now to pass along...beings this is a "Tag" game. I think that we will do this the old fashion way...all of you wearing slippers or are bare footed..Your IT...Come On PLAY ... it will be fun!
Be sure to add your blog link so we can go read about you too!
NOT IT!!!
OK...enough is enough!!
I have really been relating to Maxine lately... and let me tell you why...

If I could have my way I would have this fan in my bedroom.

So, here is how I will tell the story, thank goodness my dear husband doesn't blog.

The other night I put the fan in the window to blow some "cool" air into our bedroom...living in Idaho the evening cool down enough that it makes it very comfortable...no big deal right... so I put the fan in the window and the husband informs me that it is only 50* outside and it is making the room to cold to sleep in...I am thinking to myself that it is at least a 100* in our room. So, I take the fan out of the window, and put it on my dresser so it is blowing on me...D/H covers up with an extra blanket and doesn't say anything more. Pretty soon I have stripped down to my "nothings" and have thrown the sheets off my side of the bed, laying their spread eagle with the fan blowing on me, of coarse through all of this I have tossed, turned and cussed alittle along the way...I feel myself finally start to dose off, and D/H pipes in...are you comfy, as he pulls another blanket over himself...and I answer..."I AM NOW"....AUUUGGGHHH!

While I am on the subject...what the... happen to my perky little Ta-Ta's??? While laying under the cool fan that night I realized that my "woobies" have totally disappeared! Oh Yea...SEXY! I even looked to see if they were hanging out under my arm pits nope...they are just plain GONE! and speaking of gone...What is the deal with the Wind...yea you know what I am talking about...my "fluffers" hardly ever smell, and now I can peel the paint of walls! I wish it was only at home that this would happen but it is really sad when you are walking down the isle and every child you pass is having to have their diaper checked...oh yea and while I am on the subject of diapers, I never could understand why they had "Adult Diapers"... I have as much fun now with the dear husband as when we were first married and head for the fem/hyg isle...NOW though it's anybody's guess who those diapers are for!!! So, I guess maybe I'm not as much like Maxine as I am an old worn out Sump Cooler... Well, I am off to see how many blankets I can find for Kirk before I try to go to bed!

Missionary Mail!

I LOVE Mondays and Tuesdays
On Monday I get an email from my daughter, Hermana (Sister) Kira who is serving in Salta Argentina Mission and on Tuesday I hear from my son Elder Derek who is in the Indianapolis, Indiana Mission.
This Friday Kira will hit her 1 year mark, she will only have 6 months left (Sister missionaries only serve for 18 months), for a parent that is still a life time yet I know it will be here before I know it too!
Derek has been gone for 4 months and that at times has felt forever, yet in the next thought it is hard to believe that he has already been gone that long.
Both of them have their own writing styles. Kira's emails are full of crazy detail and are usually about 3 pages...they are uplifting and totally make me happy! She loves Argentina, and the people. She actually speaks pretty good Castillino. Her letter yesterday said, "About my new watch…well…its black and square…and it has the numbers 1 through 12 and these two little pieces of metal that point to the different numbers depending on the time of day…like when it is about time to go back to the pench it usually points at about 9 or so…but you have to know how to read it because it points at the 9 in the morning too…its tricky…jejejeje…you and your silly questions" Ok so maybe I shouldn't have asked her to tell me about her watch.
Derek's letters are short but you can hear the personal growth he is making. I ask each week for him to tell me somthing funny ...this week it was they were going fishing on their prep day...he said, "well we are going to go fishing today so that will be fun and i'm am happy to know I'm going to Kill a fish :D but not eat it yuck i just said, that i'll do the the work and some one else can take my fruits. haha" that is a true sign of him changing. Before leaving I don't know if he even knew there was a scripture that would talk about the "Fruits of his Labor" (Alma 29:15,17)
Yep, I LOVE my Mondays & Tuesdays!

Good Day

First, I want you to know I started this blog post on Saturday...I am not sure why it has taken until Monday at 1 am to finish it

Josh started taking Taekwondo when he was I believe 10 years old. He has progressed a great deal from when he first started. I have always enjoyed watching him. He and I use to travel all over to different tournaments. First in ATA, ITC and now in the HTF organizations. (I looked for pictures from when he was young and we were traveling to California, Washington and of coarse here in Idaho, but they are in pictures that are not saved on my computer so I would have to dig through boxes to find them, and beings that I have taken 2 days to do this post I decided not to embarace him that much.) Anyway, Saturday he and several of his students went to a tournament in Rupert, it always has a good turn out from schools from Idaho and Washington, and this was no different. All of his students that competed received medals, including Josh.

Josh doing his 4th degree Blk Belt Form

I don't have sparing pictures because I don't stand still long enough to take them

Mr. Josh Burgess, Silver in Sparing, Silver in Forms with a 9.0, 9.5, 9.5 score.
Josh was also presented with "2008 HTF Instructor of the Year"
by the President of the HTF 8th Degree Black belt, Grand Master Jack PierceYea, I am a happy mom...what can I say...

Then that evening Kirk and I got to go hang out with the neighbors for block party BBQ it was great fun! We live on an amazing lane with fantastic people!

Will We Forget...Or Have We Already?

September 11, 2000

We remembered that week
We cried, and we were angry!
We worried for our children!
Do we still remember....
I was in wonder as the following Sunday arrived and churches of EVERY denomination were full...Why are they not always full?
'If we ever forget that we're one nation under God,
then we will be a nation gone under.'
- Ronald Reagan
As a Human Race, we MUST stand strong against the evils of the world...Seen and Unseen!
I hope I never seem proud only to be an American on the 4th of July or remembering 9/11!
"God bless AMERICA, land that I love, stand beside me and guide me..."

Goody Give-A-Way

Thanks to Lene she blogged about this give-a-way. Just wanted to pass it on

Fly Your Flag

On Thursday, September 11th, 2008, an American flag should be displayed outside every home, apartment, office, and store in the United States . Every individual should make it their duty to display an American flag on this seventh anniversary of one our country's worst tragedies. We do this honor of those who lost their lives on 9/11, their families, friends and loved ones who continue to endure the pain, and those who today are fighting at home and abroad to preserve our cherished freedoms. In the days, weeks and months following 9/11, our country was bathed in American flags as citizens mourned the incredible losses and stood shoulder-to-shoulder against terrorism. Sadly, those flags have all but disappeared. Our patriotism pulled us through some tough times and it shouldn't take another attack to galvanize us in solidarity.
Our American flag is the fabric of our country and together we can prevail over terrorism of all kinds.

SPT

from Lelly our challenge is to highlight one thing per week that you have been inspired to do "because of a blogger." broken into 5 "categories.

"tuesday, september 2 home decor/tabletop
tuesday, september 9 entertaining/parties
tuesday, september 16 arts and crafts
tuesday, september 23 in the kitchen
tuesday, september 30 personal growth

I am not much of an entertainer...If I do have a party, me, myself and sometimes I are about all that show up. Maybe from this SPT I will find some great ideas that "I" might even show up to!

Cemetery Junkie

I started searching for cemeteries a couple of years ago. While "surfing the internet" I ran across a site called Find a Grave. And being I have a very addictive personality I started adding names and pictures. And sometimes you will get a request to look for a headstone in a cemetery near you.
I live in Rual Idaho...And you can find some strange things in some even stranger places.
Take for instance, the Island (Okelberry ) Cemetery near Oakley.
There was a request from Find a Grave to find a headstone at this cemetery.

First, the Snake River has some islands in it, but I don't know if there is away to get to any of them with out a boat????!!!!
Last summer, my brother in law who knows my hobby of finding headstones took me to a cemetery plot in a field. I remembered seeing some Okelberry's headstones.
So yesterday, I found the old cemetery sexton in Oakley and asked if he had ever heard of this Island Cemetery. He said, "No", I asked if he knew of a family plot in a field...OH YES...I know which one you want it is on the end of a corn field this year. (Who knows what will be planted next year)
And so the adventure begain...

Who better to ask if they have seen a cemetery in a corn field that guys that are harvesting corn!
These are the directions I was given...
Go down to the next road it is a 1/2 a mile road (yea our blocks are in miles) I head to 1450 South. Turn Right, (West) it will be a dirt road. Go about 2 miles and you will see a Log house, and turn left (South)You will be on another dirt road that will go between two corn fields. So far so good! Keep going and look to your left you "can't miss it"Sure enough at the end of a corn field I can see headstones, I turn into the field and there are about 30+ stones.
Most of the dates on these markers were from the late 1800's early 1900's

This headstone is the oldest one.
Florence L. Wilson
Born August 1, 1882. Died August 2, 1882
daughter of WA & Florence Wilson
"Shltered and safe from sorrow"
I could see where there were many "unmarked" graves and one spot where there once had stood a marker, and now just a spot of cement...I don't know if anyone would know who was burried there. I was excited when I left to know I had got what markers were left recorded, but also felt a sick pain as to know there were others with no way of telling me who they were.
I know there is a little cemetery in a field where I live, I think today I will go see if any of the gaves still have markers...and wonder what crazy name someone gave it!!
